SHMUPS smörgåsbord! Toaplan Arcade Shoot ’em up Collection Vol 1 & 2 coming in August

There, I just dated myself, but if you understood that reference, then so did you! 😜On that note, if you loved SHMUPS (shoot ’em ups) from yesteryear — namely the 1980s and ’90s, then TATSUJIN has a double volume collection for you. Coming in August to Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4 & 5, and Nintendo Switch, the Toaplan Arcade Shoot ’em up Collection Vol 1 & 2 from legendary SHMUPS developer Toaplan, creator of Zero Wing and the iconic “All your base are belong to us!” phrase used by gamers and geeks around the world.

Game Enhancements

Not only can gamers expect to enjoy the original international versions of these popular SHMUPS of the past, but both collections will feature some of the games’ ORIGINAL Japanese versions. TATSUJIN is working with Swedish developer Bitwave Games to modernize some of the game features as well. So, what new additions can gamers expect to see? Here’s a short list from the company:

• PS5/4 and Xbox One and Series|X feature Achievements and Trophies
• Online Leaderboards are on offer, so you can test your mettle against the best in the SHMUP community
• Stat tracking allows title-specific tracking of stats from your game sessions
• Dip switches – to recreate customizable arcade settings, such as region, lives, difficulty and autofire
• Assist features – even more aid features such as smaller hitboxes and increased player durability to let you take additional hits before dying, and slowdown/speed-up – a must for anyone who finds old-school SHMUPS a bit too challenging
• Customizable audio settings and screen settings to capture the feeling of the good old days
• Rewind function – so you can go back and correct that little mistake that ruined your run
• Quick Save/Load – allowing you to create up to 6 save slots per title
