Yoga 7i 14-inch 2022 Convertible Laptop Tablet

Since Lenovo's Yoga consumer line debuted in 2013, it has consistently been the standard for 2-in-1 convertible laptops. The Yoga 7i 14 2022 has a 14-inch display, weighs 3.2 pounds, and earned high marks for its ability to function as a laptop and a tablet. It is one of the few to provide exceptional pen capabilities.

Laptop Design

Designed with anodized aluminum, the Yoga 7i 14 comes in Storm Blue or Arctic Gray, and the slab has rounded edges for a smooth handling experience. The dimensions are 0.68 by 12.5 by 8.7 inches, though it is 3.2 ounces lighter than its predecessors.

For such a compact convertible, there are plenty of ports. A microSD card slot, two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, and an HDMI video output are all on the left side.

You can find an audio jack, a USB 3.2 Type-A port, and a power button to the right. The assortment of ports is a welcome sight compared to other brands such as Apple. Moreover, you can use an external monitor or USB-A flash drive. Additionally, Bluetooth 5.2 and Wi-Fi 6E are supported.

Display Choice

In my Yoga 7i unit, the high-quality, 14-inch IPS display of my Yoga 7i doubles as both a touchscreen tablet and laptop display. A 16:10 aspect ratio makes the screen taller than the 16:9 ratio, which is more common on tablets. I am disappointed that the pen is not part of the glossy display that offers a 10-point touch and active stylus support.

No matter how I used the display, whether watching videos or working on documents, I found it vivid and clear. It features a panel that displays 100% of the sRGB colour gamut and a peak brightness of 326 nits. The low-blue-light technology should make it comfortable to watch for long periods, as it minimizes the part of the spectrum that can cause fatigue and damage to the eyes.

The Communication Bar is a raised section found just above the display. Additionally, a small lip makes it easier to open the lid. There is a webcam within the bar that is compatible with Windows Hello. With its 1080p resolution and privacy shutter, the webcam is better than average in terms of picture quality. I am amazed; At how many features you can cram into such a small space.

Keyboard Feel

The keyboard is comfortable to use, featuring a depth of travel perfect for typing and a pop-up feel that makes it easy to press down on each key. And the keys are not only beautiful to look at but also very satisfying to the touch.

A generous touchpad sits below the keyboard on the Yoga laptop, which is made of glass and supports multitouch gestures. The touch screen is a welcome addition that enhances the laptop experience on touch-centric Yoga laptops and supports multitouch gestures.

Sound Test

The overall audio system provides two woofers and two tweeters with stereo speakers; This contributes to the high quality of the audio. With the help of a Smart Amplifier in the system, it is possible to boost volume when necessary when playing Dolby Atmos.

Webcam

Its webcams have also been upgraded, just like its speakers. Now that the laptop features a 1080p (FHD) camera with IR hybrid and a camera shutter, it can provide a much better picture and provide added security through Windows Hello. It is also easier to open the laptop due to the slightly raised lip along the top of the lid that contains the camera array.

Although we have an improved webcam offering 1080P, the quality still feels off.

The Performance

Using PCMark 10, I assess the overall productivity of Windows laptops by checking their performance in everyday tasks like word processing, web browsing, and videoconferences. Geekbench 5 is a more CPU-focused test that simulates a similar workload, including PDF rendering and speech recognition.

Cinebench uses the Cinema 4D engine to render complex images stressing all of the processor's cores and threads. 3DMark is used to stress test the GPU processor and analyze the frames per second to see how it handles intensive GPU operations.

This system can handle pretty much any task that does not require a discrete GPU, even though it does not have the performance of the P-Series CPUs in the Yoga 7i. Furthermore, the laptop is certified for the third-generation Intel Evo spec, which means it offers features like Wi-Fi 6E, a full HD camera, instant on, long battery life, and so on.

Gaming Test

While the Yoga 7i isn't for video games, the Lenovo Yoga 7i can handle some decent gaming at lower resolutions. In my test, I installed Cyberpunk 2077 and Warzone. Cyberpunk 2077 was the game that gave the laptop some trouble with an average of 20FPS. It landed some flashbacks to my youth in the mid-'90s to early 2000s.

It performed better with Warzone on low settings, even then, the graphics were better, and the game was smoother running with 34FPS. It is playable, and I did enjoy a few rounds.

Battery Life

In my daily activities, I got up to 6 hours and 30 minutes on the performance profile in Windows 11; This was with a bunch of applications, web, videoconferences, Chrome, Edge, Firefox, some editing software, watching Netflix and listening to some tunes. With a balance profile approach, I effortlessly push this to the 12 hours mark.
