The official Google Photos app is made for the way you take photos today and includes essential features like shared albums, automatic creations and an advanced editing suite. Additionally every Google Account comes with 15 GB of storage and you can choose to automatically back up all your photos and videos in High quality or Original quality. You can then access them from any connected device and on photos.google.com.
With the official app, you get:

I use this app all the time. I like how fast it is at showing your photos & videos, and the simple & quick editing. But it still has plenty of issues. The captions area is especially frustrating, it has a lot of bugs - sometimes it won't allow me to add/edit a caption, sometimes it shows one photo's caption on another photo, and there are many times when captions disappear.

This app does it's purpose of storing my photos, but there could be a few improvements. It's only in my opinion, but I think that there should be a feature that allows you to add music of your choice from your files to a video when editing, kinda like what you would do when picking your phone's ringtone. Another suggestion is that you should add some more songs that are more up to date in highlight videos, specifically from artists that are well known in this era. Other than that, it's alright.

All of my photos and videos got deleted from my files and saved to Google photos without warning, and when I tried to restore them, they just got sent straight back. Eventually I found out it was because I pressed the "clear up space" button. There was absolutely no detail to what it did, and it just deleted files. Even then, the problem could just be solved by turning off backup, right? NOPE, turns out, I can only restore photos and videos less than 2-3 minutes long. Needed files are just gone.
