Currently, as of the writing of this review, the OnePlus 7T is $669.99 and available via the OnePlus website. There are currently no Canadian carriers, retailers carrying the device in-store. You'll have to front the entire expense yourself! Don't let that scare you, my OnePlus 7T Review will cover everything you need to know. Unlike previous OnePlus smartphones, there’s just one configuration for the 7T, 8GB of RAM and 128GB fast UFS 3.0 of storage. You will not find a micro SD card slot on the OnePlus 7T as 128GB of storage capacity is typically more than enough for most consumers.

The Design Idea

OnePlus 7T Review with a Twist

Apart from the front teardrop camera, you can't miss the big circle in the back that houses the cameras. It gives the OnePlus 7T a very distinct look that you cannot pass over. More iconic to the standard of OnePlus is the slope 3D glass back. The quite obvious camera setup, with this massive bump that has so many other reviewers concerned, isn't one of mine. It's a unique look that does stand out and attracts attention.

The matte glass effect on the back feels smooth and cold to the touch, while the grey colour looks feel classier and pleasing to my eyes.

Among the various smartphone manufacturers, OnePlus remains one of the few that ships its devices with both a pre-applied screen protector and a high-quality clear TPU case in the box.

90Hz Display – OnePlus 7T Review

Between a device that offers a screen refresh rate of 60Hz and one that offers 90Hz, there's a clear winner. Any type of content on the screen is extremely fluid. Everything glides and feels snappy. The 7T isn't technically faster than most other flagships, but having that refresh rate at 90Hz does make it seem like it does.

The impressive HDR10+ colour reproduction breadths a new life. Whether you prefer a more precise DCI-P3 look or ultra-saturated hues symbolic of older OLED-powered phones, the 7T can be customized to suit your preference.

The display is certainly not the brightest that I've seen with only 743 nits. One thing is quite certain, the vivid display, the colours, the videos, and images you'll watch are amazing.

Good Triple Camera setup?

OnePlus 7T Triple Camera

This triple-set camera setup brings Sony's 48-MP sensor, and it's the 16-MP 117-degree ultrawide shooter. As for the third-camera, we have a 12-MP telephoto, capable of 2x zoom.

OnePlus brought the same 16-MP selfie camera from the OnePlus 7 to the OnePlus 7T for those lovely portraits we keep seeing all over Instagram!

Preference for how the camera performs will vary from person to person. It takes wonderful pictures in various situation and it does it well overall. Having never used any other OnePlus device, I can't compare myself to the past generation.

I strongly think that the issue lies with the camera app. I'll let the shots I took speak for themselves.

OnePlus has been continuously upgrading the user experience, the photography quality phone after phone.

I'm impressed with the ability of the wide-angle lens to capture the high-quality, undistorted, and almost panoramic landscape. While working with the camera, I did have issues with how it focused, often not focusing on the right item even when I was making my selection.

For the majority of users, I don't expect any issues.

I want to showcase the night shot that the OnePlus 7T is capable of doing.

Sweet Butter Performance

The 855 Plus’ Adreno 640 GPU is capable of 15 percent faster graphics rendering than the GPU inside the regular 855, thanks to a boosted clock speed. Cranking a game like Nimian Legends: BrightRidge with max settings for graphic quality and rendering did not make it flinch. Buttery smooth transition, gameplay, experience.

OnePlus 7T Review specs

Looking at the specification of the OnePlus 7T, you can see it packs the Snapdragon 855 Plus, the Adreno 640 GPU, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of USF 3.0 really fast storage capacity. The GPU is getting a 15% performance increase over the previous GEN of Snapdragon 855. This very substantial in the smartphone domain.

Do you know the worst part of all of this? OnePlus is doing it at half the cost of the leading flagships like Samsung, Google, Huawei etc.

No doubt cranking a game like Nimian Legends: BrightRidge with max settings for graphic quality and rendering did not make it flinch. Buttery smooth transition, gameplay, experience.

In the spirit of fun, I'm running the GFXBench Aztec Ruin, and I'm hitting 1114 frames and 17fps at 1440P.

Loaded 3DMark's Slingshot Extreme and let the device run through the different scenes. Let's take a gander at the results. I mostly included these for the geeks out there. Whoa! Looking at the numbers, it would seem that the OnePlus 7T is above most smartphones coming in with a 99% rate. Considering we have other popular smartphones on the market, I say it's safe to assume 95% versus 99%.

Did I mention earlier that the OnePlus 7T is half price of the leading smartphone flagships?

What's the Battery Life Like?

OnePlus 7T Review Battery life
OnePlus 7T Review Battery life

“Battery be like BAM I'm here!” Shoving 3800mAh of power in its body with its ability to Warp charge at 30W. The OnePlus 7T charges faster than it's previous-gen. OnePlus has said that's they've refined the circuitry and optimized the charging method.

By OnePlus's estimation, you should be able to charge from 0% to 70% in 30-minutes. They aren't wrong, by my tests, 17% to 70% took about 20-minutes. Just that 20-minutes worth of Warp charge would land me an easy 10 hours or more of power, in the event I wouldn't be able to get back to a power outlet.

You won't find wireless charging on the OnePlus 7T, and this seems to be pretty consistent from the start. OnePlus doesn't think that wireless charging is there yet.

OxygenOS – Android 10.0

I haven't used a OnePlus device, and this is my first time with it. I'm enjoying the experience. Touching the interface of OxygenOS and all the various features it has to offer a consumer is pretty neat.

OxygenOS is based on the Android Open Source Project. They made their custom iteration to fit the need of their user base.

OnePlus made a lot of improvements in its release of OxygenOS under Android 10.0. The base apps, the face unlock, fingerprint sensor, zen mode etc. With the release of OxygenOS under Android 10.0, you now have all the gestures, the notification replies that come with being on 10.

Amazing extra features that have been shoved around in OxygenOS for years, app encryption, capture scrolling screenshots, the separate drawer for hidden apps and Quick Launch, have made me a fan. I'm highly tempted to get my very own OnePlus 7T.

Is it worth $669.99?

Yes.

Let's recap for just a little bit. You get a premium smartphone that houses 8GB of RAM, 128GB of UFS 3.0 fast storage, 3-Cameras that can take some excellent pictures, you can play some intensive games or do work, 90Hz fluid smooth display for some amazing animation. What's not to like?

I guess this concludes OnePlus 7T Review!

OnePlus 7T Review - Unboxed

At this point, you might be wondering what the twist is? The twist about the OnePlus 7T is the affordability, high-end specs, high-performance, this is a device that even in 2-years from now will still be at the top of its game. Unlike many other manufacturers, you will be able to take part in the next releases of updates, OS upgrade and feature improvement. Although the OnePlus 7T isn't marketed as a gaming smartphone, I highly recommend you get one if you enjoy gaming. There are some crazy games out there available on the Android platform and you'll truly enjoy it.
