Is the need for budget smartphones real? We see lots of advertising the mighty high-end flagships of each brand. Have we thought about doing the same for the budget friendly?

The answer to that question is yes! The unfortunate truth is that most and if not the majority of people cannot afford the latest and greatest of them all. The budget-friendly smartphone is where a lot of people fall under in Canada.

There's a need to have something that will get the job done, will provide entertainment and won't be a sluggish beast.

But what is budget-friendly? The low and mid-range smartphone that Mr and Mrs everyone can enjoy without breaking the bank. The range at the time of writing this is $599 or less.

At the higher end of that scale, you do get a really decent smartphone that can do much of everything. There are some definitive drawbacks to cutting corners. This could be anything from storage, display, memory, processor and all the way into the features of the device.

It boils down to what can you live with and without. What's the most important and what's the least important.

Everyday soccer mom wants to be able to send texts, make phone calls, likely check her Facebook and make sure that her kids get home safely.

Of the everyday student that scrounges every last penny while going to college and attempting to maintain a decent life without being broke all the time with the rising cost of tuition…

This even applies to the first smartphone a parent offers to their teenagers. The need is there. Brands and carrier need to do a better job advertising their different lines properly so that people can be made aware of alternatives to the $1000 smartphone.

Some food for thought here. Often enough, the best of the best isn't always the best for us.
